River Walks Pet Care was founded in 2013  in Virginia, the owner's original home. In November of that year, it moved to Elkridge, Maryland. River Walks Pet Care was a small woman-owned pet care company that provided personalized in-home care for dogs, cats, fish, rabbits, and other small companion animals. River Walks was bonded and insured and a member of Pet Sitters International with certificates in professional pet sitting (CPPS) and PetTech CPR & First Aid.

In 2015, River Walks Pet Care won the Dotty Shantz Scholarship from Pet Sitters International to the annual Pet Sitter World Educational Conference & Expo. Only one pet sitter is selected to win this award every year based on their efforts to uplift the pet sitting profession and quality business practices.

Carolina Rodriguez, owner & founder, is a life-long  pet lover who has been lucky enough to always have at least one pet at home, usually a cat.  For years she has worked in the professional pet care world - she has been a midday dog walker, pet sitter, as well as worked on the administrative side of things, first supporting other small businesses.  Carolina Rodriguez independently ran River Walks Pet Care for 10 years from 2013-2023

The pet sitter's beloved scotch collie, River, was the inspiration for the service's name and quality of care. River passed away in October of 2021. The pet sitter still shares her home with her tortoiseshell cat, Daphne, who also loved living with River for many years.
